Jacksonville Suns 7, Montgomery Biscuits 2
[Via email from Joe Davis, the Montgomery Biscuits Broadcaster.]
MONTGOMERY, AL – The bullpen gave up five Jacksonville (19-10) runs, and the Biscuits (16-13) went 0-6 with runners in scoring position, falling 7-2 to the Suns on Saturday night at Riverwalk Stadium.
For the third night in a row, the Suns tallied runs in the first inning. The first four reached against David Newmann, with Lorenzo Scott and Osvaldo Martinez both scoring runs on a bases-loaded walk from Mark Saccamano and a bases-loaded double-play ball.
The Biscuits cut it to one in the third. Drew Anderson led off with a triple, then scored on a John Matulia sacrifice fly.
Things would remain quiet for the next three frames until Chris Hatcher led off the seventh with a solo homer off Darin Downs. That followed a sixth inning during which the Biscuits stranded the bases loaded, with Matt Fields striking out to kill the threat.
The Biscuits would again cut it one with another Matulia sac fly in the seventh, but the pen was unable to keep it close. Downs gave up one more in the eighth, and Paul Phillips gave up three on a pair of homers in the ninth.
Jacksonville starter Jeff Allison (2-2) got the win for the Suns, tossing five innings of three-hit, one-run ball. Newmann falls to 1-1 with the loss, allowing two runs in the first on six hits total over five frames.
Nevin Ashley, Greg Sexton, and Drew Anderson each collected two hits for the Biscuits. Chris Hatcher led the way for the Suns with a 3-3 night, knocking his first home run.
The Biscuits will have Sunday off before welcoming Huntsville in for a five-game set on Monday with game one beginning at 7:05.
