[Press release provided by Stone Crabs Marketing Manager Jonathan Gantt]
The Charlotte Stone Crabs will host the Matt LaRocca Night fundraising event during the team’s upcoming game against the Tampa Yankees starting at 5:35 p.m. on Sunday, May 16 at Charlotte Sports Park.
LaRocca is a local fifth-grader from Punta Gorda who currently attends Sallie Joes Elementary School. He was diagnosed with a ganglioglioma tumor within his brain stem in November 2009, and surgeons found that due to the tumor’s location and size, it could not be removed. His most recent MRI showed that the tumor had actually grown larger instead of shrinking from his first round of chemotherapy.
Special $10 tickets with portions of the proceeds benefitting the Matt LaRocca Fund are available for the game and include a free Stone Crabs hat. Those interested should contact Kim LaRocca at 941-391-0072.
In addition to the game, the fundraising event will also feature a live, pre-game concert by DC3 Worship and a memorabilia raffle including Stone Crabs autographed merchandise and an autographed Cal Ripken, Jr. baseball. A portion of the third base concession sales will also be donated to help offset treatment costs. LaRocca will also get to spend time with the Stone Crabs players in the clubhouse and throw out the Ceremonial First Pitch before the game.
