[Recap provided by Bulls Neil Solondz.]
(Toledo, OH) Alvin Colina's two-run double in the ninth capped a three-run rally, but the Bulls fell 5-3 to Toledo on Tuesday night.
Durham (23-17) now has lost three in a row, while Toledo (22-18) has won four straight. The Bulls had scored just one run in the previous 29 innings before the ninth inning rally.
Justin Ruggiano started the rally against closer Jay Sborz with a liner up the middle. Dan Johnson walked, and after Joe Dillon struck out, Chris Richard double to right center to avert the shutout. Sborz struck out Angel Chavez, but Colina followed with a two-run double to right. Sborz got Rashad Eldridge, the tying run to fly to left to end the game.
Toledo took a 1-0 lead in the second on a Deik Scram base hit. The Mud Hens tacked on single runs in the fifth, sixth, seventh and eighth against Carlos Hernandez (3-2) and three other relievers for what turned out to be necessary insurance. All of the runs were set up by walks or errors.
The Bulls, who still lead the South Division, will try to bounce back on Wednesday morning at 10:30 as Jeremy Hellickson (6-1) takes the mound. Coverage on 620 the Buzz begins at 10:15.
