The Charlotte Stone Crabs increased their winning streak to four games with a 4-1 win against the Daytona Cubs on Wednesday night at Jackie Robinson Ballpark.
Henry Wrigley put the runs on the board early and Frank De Los Santos kept them off the board to lead the Stone Crabs to victory.
The Stone Crabs struck first in the top of the first inning. Tim Beckham and Leslie Anderson reached base with back to back singles. Wrigley drove them both home with a line drive to right to put the Stone Crabs on top 2-0.
Daytona cut the lead in half during the bottom of the first when Kyler Burke reached on an error, allowing Ryan Flaherty to score and pull the Cubs to within a run of the lead 2-1.
Both clubs pitching staff did a great job in keeping runs of the scoreboard, throwing 7 scoreless innings.
The Stone Crabs added two insurance runs off three doubles in the ninth inning. Michael Sheridan opened up the inning with a double to center. Kyeong Kang drove him home with a double to right. Kang later scored on a double by Isaias Velasquez to lead the Stone Crabs to a 4-1 victory.
De Los Santos earned the victory, allowing 1 run on 5 hits with a walk in 6 innings. Neil Schenk and Zach Quate combined with 3 no-hit innings from the pen with Quate recording the save.
The Stone Crabs (28-23) and Cubs (24-29) are back on the field on Thursday night for game three of the series. Matt Moore (0-6, 6.52) is scheduled to pitch against Chris Archer (2-1, 3.65).
