The Charlotte Stone Crabs inched closer to first place with a 4-1 victory against the Daytona Cubs on Tuesday night at Jackie Robinson Ballpark.
Leslie Anderson led the offensive charge, accounting for all of the Stone Crabs runs. Anderson was 3 for 5 with a three run homer, 3 RBI's and 2 runs scored.
The Stone Crabs broke the scoreless tie in the second inning courtesy of an Anderson long ball. Jake Jefferies led off the inning with a double to center followed by a single by Greg Sexton. Anderson then cleared the bases with a three run home run to give the Stone Crabs a 3-0 lead.
Both clubs exchanged runs in the sixth inning. Tim Beckham delivered a bases loaded single to drive home Anderson. Then in the bottom of the inning, Daytona pushed across their first run of the game on an RBI double by Rebel Ridling.
Sergio Espinosa and Josh Satow combined to throw three scoreless innings to keep the Cubs off the board and secure the 4-1 victory.
Joseph Cruz improved to 3-4 with the win, allowing 1 run on 5 hits with 5 strikeouts and 3 walks in 6 innings pitched. Espinosa struck out 2 and allowed 2 hits in 1 2/3 innings. Satow earned his seventh save with 1 1/3 innings surrendering 1 hit and striking out 2.
The Stone Crabs (27-23) are back in action against the Cubs (24-28) again on Wednesday night at Jackie Robinson Ballpark. Frank De Los Santos (4-3, 5.24) will be on the hill for Charlotte against Rafael Dolis (3-3, 2.34) for Daytona.
