P-Rays Drop Pitching Duel to Danville

The Princeton Rays fell to the Danville Braves 1-0 on Wednesday night at Hunnicutt Field. Andrew Bellatti and Ryan Weber matched up in a great pitching duel that resulted in five scoreless innings being pitched before someone finally scored.

Unfortunately, that someone to score was Danville, striking for the games only run in the top of the sixth. Alberto Odreman drew a walk to start the rally. Then back to back singles by Jarred Frierson and Jason Mowery loaded the bases. A sac fly by Andrelton Simmons pushed across Odreman to give the Braves a 1-0 lead. But with the strong pitching on the night, that was all that was needed to secure the victory for the Braves.

Andrew Bellatti suffered the loss, pitching 5 1/3 innings and allowing 1 run on 1 hits with 5 strikeouts and 2 walks. Matthew Gilson pitched the final 3 2/3 innings, allowing no runs on 4 hits.

The Rays look to avoid the sweep as they wrap up the series against Danville on Thursday night at Hunnicutt Field. Lefty Braulio Lara (0-0, -.--) will be making the start against Aaron Northcraft (0-0, -.--).

  1. I was really quite shocked to see Bellati pitch.
