The Princeton Rays fell to 0-4 on the season by losing to the Bristol Sox 5-2 on Friday night at Bryce Cox Field.
The Rays took an early lead in the third inning. Jeff Malm singled to left to lead off the inning. Kevin Kiermaier and Todd Glaesmann followed with back to back singled to load the bases. Scott Lawson drove home two runs with a double to center, giving the Rays a 2-0 lead.
Bristol battled back to tie the game in the fourth. Jose Martinez struck an RBI double to center to score Josh Phegley. Michael Schwartz later drove home Martinez to tie the game 2-2.
Bristol took the lead in the fifth inning. Jordan Keegan reached on a walk then later scored the go ahead run when Drew Lee doubled to right, giving the Sox a 3-2 lead.
The Sox would pick up two insurance runs in the seventh. Martinez struck an RBI single to score Lee then later scored on a double by John Spatola to secure the 5-2 win.
Elizaer Suero suffered the loss, allowing 3 runs on 5 hits with 2 strikeouts and 4 walks in 4 1/3 innings on the mound. Victor Mateo followed with 2 2/3 innings pitched, allowing 2 runs on 3 hits with 2 strikeouts and a walk. John Carruth pitched the final frame, allowing no runs on 1 hits with 2 strikeouts.
These two clubs do battle again on Saturday at Boyce Cox Field. Jacob Partridge (0-0, -.--) will start for Princeton facing Jacob Petricka (0-0, -.--) for Bristol.
