The Hudson Valley Renegades lost to the Brooklyn Cyclones 5-2 on Monday night at MCU Park.
The Renegades reached the scoreboard first in the top of the first inning. Diogenes Luis singled to center then later scored on an RBI single by Burt Reynolds to take a 1-0 lead.
Brooklyn battled back to take the lead in the bottom of the first. Cory Vaughn delivered a two run homer to put the Cyclones on top 2-1.
The Cyclones increased their lead in the fifth inning. Rylan Sandoval doubled to right to lead off the inning. Darrel Ceciliani followed with a bunt single to move Sandoval to third. Vaughn knocked home a run with a ground out to score Sandoval. Jeff Flagg then cleared the bases with a two run homer to put Brooklyn ahead 5-1.
The Renegades would get another run in the top of the eighth. Burt Reynolds led off the inning with a triple to right, his second three bagger of the season. Reynolds would later score on a single by Philip Wunderlich. But that was all the offense the Renegades could muster as they lost 5-2.
Devin Fuller took the loss, pitching 4 innings and allowing 4 runs on 9 hits with 6 strikeouts. Steve Hiscock pitched 3 innings and allowed a run on 3 hits with 4 strikeouts and a walk. Adam Liberatore pitched a scoreless inning, allowing a hit while striking out 2 and walking 1.
The Renegades take on the Cyclones again on Tuesday at MCU Park. Joey Dettrich (1-1, 5.79) will start for Hudson Valley.
