The Hudson Valley Renegades rallied late to defeat the Brooklyn Cyclone 4-3 on Friday night at Dutchess Stadium. The Renegades used some ninth inning heroics to walk-off with the victory.
Brooklyn took the lead in the third inning. Joe Bonfe led off the inning with a single to left field. Taylor Freeman then cleared the bases with a two run homer. Darrell Ceciliani later tripled to right, then scored on a single by Jeff Flagg to give the Cyclones a 3-0 lead.
The Renegades picked up their first run of the night in the bottom of the third. Derek Dietrich was hit by a pitch then moved to third on a double by Nicholas Schwaner. Steve Tinoco drove home the run with a ground ball to short that scored Dietrich and pulled them to within two runs of the lead.
The Renegades trailed the entire contest until the bottom of the ninth rally. Tinoco led off the inning with a single to short and advanced to second on a throwing error on the play. Mayobanex Acosta then drove home the run with a double to left that scored Tinoco. Brian Bryles plated the tying run with an RBI single to left to score Acosta. Craige Lyerly drove home the winning run with a double that scored Bryles to record the 4-3 walk-off victory.
Wilmer Amonte allowed 3 runs on 7 hits with 5 strikeouts and a walk in 6 innings pitched. Robert Dickmann pitched 2 shut-out innings with a hit, two strikeouts and a walk. Austin Hubbard recorded the win, throwing a no-hit ninth inning with 2 strikeouts and 2 walks.
The Renegades (4-3) head to Richmond County Bank Ballpark to begin a game series against the Staten Island Yankees (3-4). Miguel Sierra (0-1, 6.75) will be on the mound for Hudson Valley against Wilton Rodriguez (0-1, 3.38) for Staten Island.
