The Charlotte Stone Crabs shut-out the Jupiter Hammerheads 4-0 on Tuesday night at Roger Dean Stadium. The shut-out is the fifth one of the season for the Stone Crabs who are now 12-2 in the month of June.
Matt Moore prooved he has broken out of his slump by winning his second game of the year with his best performance, a six inning shut-out performance. Marquis Fleming and Zach Quate combined to keep the shut-out through the entire game.
The Stone Crabs reached the scoreboard in the third inning. Anthony Scelfo and Isaias Velasquez delivered back to back singles. Tim Beckham drove home the first run with a sac fly. Stephen Vogy knocked in the second run with an RBI single to left to give the Stone Crabs a 2-0 lead.
The Stone Crabs added two more runs to their total in the ninth. Kyeong Kang reached on a walk and Scelfo on a hit batsman to put two runners aboard. Beckham drove them home with a two run double to left, increasing the lead to the final 4-0.
The pitching combination or Moore, Fleming and Quate combined to keep the Hammerheads off the board for the entire game, only allowing them four hits in the contest. Moore pitched six innings, allowing 2 hits with 9 strikeouts and a walk to win his second game of the season. Fleming threw a no hit inning with a walk. Quate earned save number 11 with 2 shut-out innings, allowing 2 hits and recording a strikeout, lowering his ERA to an amazing 0.55 for the season.
The Stone Crabs look to sweep the Hammerheads on Wednesday at Roger Dean Stadium. Nick Barnese (4-3, 3.72) is on the mound against Brad Hand (4-2).
Moore is going to be really special if he can turn in more games like this. I need to catch another game where he starts and see how he has develped since I last saw him in early May.
