Minor Moves: Johnson, Hellickson

The Tampa Bay Rays have announced the call-up of Dan Johnson to the Tampa Bay Rays. Johnson leads the International League in home runs and RBI's while hitting .303/.624/.430 with 30 home runs and 95 RBI's for the Bulls this season. Johnson is likely to fill in for Carlos Pena who is nursing an injury.

Johnson was originally drafted in the seventh round of the 2001 Draft by the Oakland Athletics. He has spent two stints with the Rays organization, once in 2008 after being selected off waivers. Then after spending a season in Japan, he was signed as a free agent for the 2010 season. This is his sixth stint in the majors, four with the Athletics and two with the Rays in 2008.

The Rays also sent Jeremy Hellickson back to AAA Durham. Hellickson won his MLB debut and is a likely candidate to help the big club in the later months.

[A few more, added by Doug]: The Montgomery Biscuits have placed Cody Cipriano and Matt Sweeney on the 7-day DL and activated David Newmann from the DL. Kyle Holloway has been assigned to the Princeton Rays from the Hudson Valley Renegades. Ryan Royster has been sent to the GCL Rays on a rehab assignment.

  2. He sure seems like a good fit and deserves the move, but so far they haven't made any changes. Wrigley played last night for Montgomery and I haven't seen anything yet today showing any moves.
