BA's Conor Glassey broke the news via Twitter: #Rays sign first-rounder Josh Sale for around $1.62 million and supplemental first-rounder Drew Vettleson for around $845,000
It was also reported that 7th round pick Michael Lorenzen will attend college, and I can only assume that 4th round pick Austin Wood will not be signing as well.
God Dang Rays, Dont take so long next time. Felt like I was going to stroke out. Any reason why that took so long?
ReplyDeleteNo idea. Not even like they got a ton of money above slot: Sale got 200k more and Vettleson about 43k. O'Conner got more above-slot money than Vettleson and signed quickly.
ReplyDeleteIt wasn't the Rays who delayed the signings....
ReplyDeleteDo you think either will get to play this year?
ReplyDeleteHell to the yeahhhh! This so rocks. Impressive draft class - I hear Levonn Washington signed with Indians for 1.2 million - Isn't that less than projected or at least what he wanted? I'd rather have O'Conner anyways
ReplyDeleteI am not at all certain about it, but it is possible that the deals were in place but mlb held up the announcement or the Rays simply did not confirm the deals in order not to publicize that both were over slot. Admittedly they are not much over, but I think teams are pressured not to advertise over slot signings.
ReplyDeleteIt was the commissioner's office holding them up(probably), but like I said, it makes no sense, especially considering O'Conner got about 50k over slot but signed quickly while Vettleson had to wait to get 42k over slot. It's really a bad system in place by MLB.
