The Tampa Bay Rays have traded Matt Gorgen to the Arizona Diamondbacks. Gorgen was the closer for the Biscuits in the 2010 season, finishing the season with 22 saves, 47 strikeouts and a 1.65 ERA in 42 games.
Gorgen was drafted by the Rays in the 16th round of the 2008 draft from University of California. He has been named to the all-star squad in all three seasons of his pro career; New York-Penn League (2008), Florida State League (2009) and Southern League (2010). He was the reliever of the year for the Rays minor league organization in 2009 as well as a rising star in the Arizona Fall League the same year.
Gorgen was sent to the Diamondbacks as the player to be named later that completed the July 31 trade that sent Chad Qualls to Tampa Bay.
