What the heck is with the Sonnanstine move?
ReplyDeleteHudson Valley's season ends in 4 days, so they can bring Sonnanstine back quicker than the normal 10 days.
ReplyDeleteBut the MLB roster was expanded to 40 on 9/1!?!
ReplyDeleteBut they had to move Sonnanstine down on Aug. 31 to get Hawpe on the roster in time to be eligible for the post-season, and once sent down you cannot be recalled for 10 days or when your team's schedule is finished.
ReplyDeleteThey didn't have to move Sonny down. As long as Hawpe was on the roster on 9/1, he was eligible for post season.
ReplyDeleteI don't think they would have had room for Hawpe on the roster had they not moved Sonnanstine down.
ReplyDeleteNo, they didn't have anywhere near 40 on the roster.
ReplyDeleteThey wanted him on the 25 man roster to be eligible for the post-season.
ReplyDeletehow did they not give that kid Wrigley a september call up. except for the last month he and dan johnson were hands down top two hitters all season. he set up the stone crabs for a playoff seat and there is no thanks for that
ReplyDeleteWrigley may still be in line for a call-up. They may be keeping him in Montgomery while the Biscuits make a late season run at the postseason. Just a thought.
ReplyDeleteThe Sonnanstine move makes no sense. Adding Hawpe to be post season eligible did not force a Sonny move down.
ReplyDeleteIn my opinion, the only promotion, if any, is to AAA. I dont think he deserves it yet though. And anyways his OBP. isnt even .300. I dont hate Wrigley, its just he needs to prove he can consistently hit and get on base.
ReplyDeleteI think he has earned a look at a higher level. He slumped a bit the last month of the season, but he appears to be coming out of it.
ReplyDeleteHe spent the 2010 season as one of the biggest bats in the organization. He has not played in the FSL since midseason but still leads the Stone Crabs in homers and is in the top 10 in the league in home runs. The power followed him to Montgomery where he is fourth in home runs despite playing less then half the season.
Combined between Charlotte and Montgomery Wrigley is hitting .273/.457/.316 with 25 doubles, 4 triples, 20 home runs and 80 RBI's. He has shown the ability to play both corner infield and outfield positions.
Get rid of the short term slump and look at the bigger picture and Henry has been one of the best hitters in the organization this season. He is just a deserving to get the call to TB as any of those who already have.
I wont disagree that Wrigkey has been one of the better hitters so far in the system so far, but his OBP has been somewhat low at both levels. Maybe he should take some more walks and get that up some. I don't thnk he is ready for the majors though yet, maybe next year he would be ready.
ReplyDeleteall these arguments are good about wrigley but he not a guy who is gonna walk, he wants to drive those runners in. madden needs to see the big picture that there is a 24 yearold power guy in the minors just waiting for them to make a move so he can help the big league squad like he has done with every other minor team he has played on. theres a reason for the 40 man and they dont adjust it as much as they should. have they released fall league invites?
ReplyDeleteFrom what I have seen, AFL looks to be Leslie Anderson, Alex Cobb, Sergio Espinosa, Jeremy Hall, Jose Ruiz, Neil Shenk and Henry Wrigley representing the Rays organization.
