Stephen Vogt was named the Florida State League Player of the Week for the Week of August 30 through September 6. Vogt was 11 for 20 with 4 doubles, a home run and 4 RBI's during the week. He closed out the regular season on a seven game hitting streak. Vogt was the best hitter in the FSL this season, finishing the regular season .345/.511/.399 with 31 doubles, 3 triples, 8 home runs and 47 RBI's.
Vogt was drafted by the Rays in the 12th round of the 2007 draft out of Azusa Pacific University. He missed most of the 2009 with the Stone Crabs due to injury but has made an amazing comeback by winning the FSL batting crown and being named to the midseason and postseason all-star teams.
Congratulations Stephen! We can add Comeback Player of the Year as well. And you gotta love the old-school, no-batting-gloves look - it just shows that it's not the equipment, but the operator. I hope we see his name high on the prospects list for 2011, instead of the workout wonders and "toolsy, gee he just looks like a ballplayer" types who have yet to show anything on the field, where it counts.
ReplyDeleteJust to clarify - Vogt wasn't named Comeback Player of the Year - that was my own editorial comment. I don't think there is such an award, but if there were, he would deserve it.
