Thompson often flashed a plus changeup in college, and it was on display this summer as well, though it tends to be too firm. While his slider was inconsistent at Long Beach, he developed more confidence and feel for the pitch, which reached the upper 80s at Hudson Valley. With his durable frame and loose arm, he could become a frontline starter if his secondary stuff and command continue to progress like they did this summer. In the Midwest League, Alex Colome was the lone Rays representative, checking it at #16:
Colome's best pitch is a 91-93 mph fastball that tops out at 96 and features armside run and sink. His 11-to-5 curveball has tight spin and qualifies as a plus pitch at its best. His changeup is a solid third offering that helped him limit lefthanders to a .199 average. The remaining schedule of top 20 lists:
Oct. 6 - Florida State League (Charlotte)
Oct. 7 - Southern League (Montgomery)
Oct. 12 - International League (Durham)
Thank you. Not what I expected from Colome. I have heard his fastball is alot better than that.
