What Do You Want To See?

In addition to all of our usual coverage on the web this off-season, we're going to be doing something new. I'm happy to announce that we're planning to release a 2011 RaysProspect Guide, the complete guide to get you ready for the 2011 minor league season. Here are some of the features you can expect to see:
-Profiles on more than 150 Rays minor leaguers
-A comparison of the system post-2008 to post-2010
-In-depth looks at the progress of several prospects
-Analysis of previous drafts
-Predictions for the 2011 season
-Affiliate previews for the full-season teams
-We're also working on getting some other fun stuff in there, but you'll have to stay tuned for that.

But we also want to hear from you guys. What kind of stuff would you like to see in the guide? Leave any suggestions or ideas you have in the comments section here, and we'll do our best to work on it, if not in the guide then right here on the site.

For a little taste, here's what the cover will look like, save for a few tweaks:

  1. I'd like to see rankings different than Baseball America's Top 30 in their Prospect handbook. I would like to see the pitchers separated from the position players in the rankings.

  3. Lots of Scouting Reports would be great as well as the possible rosters for each franchise for the next season!

I'm really looking forward to it!

  4. Anon #1 - if you look further down on the right hand side you can see our Top 15 Hitters and Top 15 Pitchers for the past 2 seasons ( entering 2009 and entering 2010). We'll do it again as we enter 2011, along with an overall top 30.

Nick - Thank you so much, you do great work!

BurGi - Thanks for the idea. Probably will only be for ful-season teams, the short-season rosters are almost impossible to predict, and even after they are announced they often move players quickly.

    Anyone else have ideas?

One thing I've previously worked on was a historic look at every Rays minor league affiliates' final standings and playoff history. The standings are easy, but playoff info from the '90s is unrelieable (ex. the Rays Media Guide info vs. BB-Reference info).

The draft history will include every pick, who signed, and any bonus information we have.

  5. Given that the Rays have 11 of their 25 man roster as free agents this winter it would also be interesting to see who the minor league free agents are at AAA and AA. And maybe the likelyhood of those minor league free agents being resigned. One could say, who cares about a guy who has been int he minors long enough to become a free agent but it seem to me that it speaks to the depth of the farm system with experienced players that could potentially step in at the major league level

  6. Anon, see today's post.

Other ideas for things to include:

    - A "Ballpark Guide" for each team, with things like directions to the park, phone numbers, seating chart, stadium pictures, etc.

    - Selected rules that affect the minor leagues, such as Rule 4 (the June draft), Rule 5 (draft), Minor league free agency, standard player contract, etc.

    Other ideas?

  7. I want to see opinions on the top players. Just personal opinions about how they will do, like the prediction things.
