Alex Torres was named the International League Pitcher of the Week for the week ending on April 17. Torres made two starts during the period and was 1-0 and allowed no runs on 5 hits with 17 strikeouts and 2 walks in 10 1/3 innings. Opposing hitters are hitting .139 against Torres so far this season.
Torres was acquired by the Rays organization in 2009 as part of the Scott Kazmir trade to the Angels. He was originally signed by the Angels as a free agent in 2005. Torres is a two time all-star and appeared in the MLB Futures Game in 2010. This is his third Pitcher of the Week award, winning in 2009 in the California League and again in 2010 in the Southern League.
