On Tuesday, the Rays formally released the Minor League Players of the Month for May. Bowling Green’s Cody Rogers was named the hitter of the month while Montgomery’s Matt Moore was named the pitcher of the month.
Rogers hit .297 with 7 doubles, 2 triples, 6 home runs and 18 RBI’s in 29 games for the Hot Rods in the month. He is now hitting .246 with 9 doubles, 4 triples, 10 home runs and 24 RBI’s this season. Rogers was drafted by the Rays in the 7th round of the 2009 draft.
Moore continues to dominate hitters, leading the league in strikeouts for the third consecutive season. He was 2-1 with a 1.05 ERA and 50 strikeouts in 6 starts in May. For the season, Moore has struck out a league high 92 hitters while maintaining a 3-3 record with a 2.75 ERA in 13 starts. Moore was the Rays 8th round pick in the 2007 draft.
