Via press release from Joe Davis of the Montgomery Biscuits.
The Southern League today announced that Biscuits righty Chris Archer has been named Southern League Pitcher of the Week following a stellar outing in Birmingham.
Archer tossed seven one-hit, shutout innings at Regions Park against the Birmingham Barons last Wednesday to get his fourth-consecutive win. The 22-year-old has stepped up with Matt Moore's promotion - he's 4-0 with a 2.10 in five starts since.
Acquired from the Cubs in the Matt Garza deal prior to this season, Archer has responded to a bumpy first half (3-3, 5.27) with a more Archer-like second half, going 5-3 with a 2.91. Now in his sixth pro season, he's one of two Biscuits currently on the Rays 40-man roster.
It's the 16th time a Biscuits pitcher has been honored with the award. Moore took home the honor at the end of May. This is Archer's second Pitcher of the Week award, having been honored last season as a Tennessee Smokie.
Archer will take the ball for the Biscuits tonight as they face off against the Mississippi Braves at Riverwalk beginning at 7:05.
Chattanooga's Alex Castellanos took home Hitter of the Week honors.
