Pair of strong starts against St. Lucie helps lefty nab third weekly honor
Charlotte Stone Crabs starter Kyle Lobstein was named the Florida State League’s Pitcher of the Week for the third time this season. The left-hander registered a pair of victories over the St. Lucie Mets to capture the weekly honor for the period August 8 – August 14.
Lobstein, who celebrated his 22nd birthday on Friday, began his week by tossing six scoreless innings to defeat the Mets on August 8 at Charlotte Sports Park. Just five days later, Lobstein provided an encore performance with six more blank frames to down the Mets at Digital Domain Park.
All told, Lobstein’s mastery of the Mets included 12 scoreless innings with just nine hits allowed. The lefty walked just one batter while racking up 11 strikeouts in his two starting assignments.
Tampa Bay selected Lobstein in the 2nd round of the 2008 June Draft out of Coconino(Ariz.) High School.
