Durham Bulls 12, Lehigh Valley Iron Pigs 2
The Bulls opened up the series against the Iron Pigs in a big way as the bats heated up for a 12-2 beating of the Pigs. The Bulls offense put on a show, scoring 12 runs on 14 hits in which half of them were for extra bases. They extended a 9-0 lead before the Iron Pigs even scored in the seventh. Leslie Anderson led the offense by going 3 for 5 with a home run and 3 RBI's. Reid Brignac also went deep on Thursday night. Chris Archer picked up the win and Ryan Reid chipped in with 2 no-hit innings to round out the game.
Montgomery Biscuits 9, Huntsville Stars 7
The Biscuits gave up the lead but rallied in the ninth to beat the Stars 9-7. The Biscuits were kept of the scoreboard until the fifth inning when they pushed across five runs to take a 5-1 lead. They added to their tally with two more in the seventh to extend the lead to 7-1. But that's when things started to go downhill for the Biscuits as they surrendered four in the seventh and two in the eighth to allow the Stars to tie the game. The Biscuits then rallied in the ninth to score two runs and take the win. The Biscuits offense recorded thirteen hits on the night. Tyler Bortnick had three stolen bases. Frank De Los Santos was the winner.
Jupiter Hammerheads 10, Charlotte Stone Crabs 5
The Stone Crabs tried to head to All-Star break on a winning note but watched their lead disappear as they lost to the Hammerheads on Thursday afternoon. The Stone Crabs jumped out to an early 4-0 lead before giving up six runs in the bottom of the fifth inning. The Stone Crabs gave up another four in the seventh to suffer the loss. The Stone Crabs managed 11 hits on the afternoon with Mikie Mahtook getting his third homer of the season. Robi Estrada drove home two runs in the game. Kyle Farnsworth pitched an inning of rehab work to start the game, allowing no hits and recording a strikeout. Braulio Lara then took over the mound and was charged with the loss.
West Michigan White Caps 9, Bowling Green Hot Rods 1
The Hot Rods did not have an answer for the offense of the White Caps as they fell by the score of 9-1 on Thursday. Tyler Goeddel drove home the lone Hot Rods run. Cameron Seitzer had the only extra base hit for the Hot Rods. Felipe Rivero was charged with the loss.
VSL Rays, VSL Tigers (Postponed-Rain)
Thursday's game between the Rays and Tigers was postponed due to rain. There is no make-up game showing on the schedule yet however these two teams face each other again on 6/18 & 6/19.
DSL Athletics 9, DSL Rays 8
The Rays late game rally fell short as they lost to the Athletics on Thursday. The Rays watched an early lead dissolve in the sixth as they surrendered all nine runs in the late innings. Down by five heading into the ninth, the Rays pushed across four runs in the home half of the ninth. But they couldn't get the tying run across as they suffered the loss. Cristian Toribio was 3 for 5 on the afternoon. Jose Rojas had 4 RBI's. Geisel De La Cruz threw five scoreless innings before giving way to the bullpen. Danilo Gutierrez was charged with the loss.
Keppinger, Longoria and Farnsworth all now re-habbing, meaning that theoretically they are w/in 3 weeks of returning to the ML lineup. It will be interesting to see what moves are made when they return. Scott going on the DL saved somebody's bacon, at least for now.
