Durham Bulls 3, Lehigh Valley Iron Pigs 0
The Bulls pitching staff led them to a 3-0 shut-out win over the Iron Pigs on Friday night. Matt Torra, Dane De La Rosa and Bryan Augenstein combined to throw the shut-out. The game remained in a scoreless tie until seventh inning when the Bulls reached the scoreboard. They scored once in the seventh and twice in the ninth to earn the victory. Brandon Allen was 2 for 3 while Cole Figueroa drove home two runs. Torra picked up the win and Augenstein the save.
Montgomery Biscuits 7, Huntsville Stars 2
The Biscuits used 12 strikeouts on the night to help defeat the stars and take the series. Both club exchanged a pair of runs in the first inning but that was as close as it would get. The Biscuits then scored 5 unanswered runs during the rest of the game while the pitching staff kept putting zeros on the scoreboard. Greg Sexton finished 3 for 4 on the night while Omar Luna also had 3 hits. Hak-Ju Lee collected three stolen bases. Joe Cruz was the winner in this one.
South Division All-Stars 6, North Division All-Stars 3
The South Division rallied late to win the 51st Annual Florida State League All-Star game at Charlotte Sports Park. CJ Riefenhauser pitched a scoreless first, striking out two. Chris Rearick earned the save by striking out the side in the ninth. Mike Mahtook was 1 for 3 with a single and an RBI. Derek Dietrich was 0 for 3.
Bowling Green Hot Rods 4, Fort Wayne Tin Caps 0
The Hot Rods clinched a playoff berth with a 4-0 shut-out of the Tin Caps. Ryan Carpenter struck out nine in 7 shut-out innings to keep the Tin Caps off the board and put the Hot Rods in the postseason. Jake Hager was 3 for 4 with 2 RBI's. Cameron Seitzer was 2 for 4.
VSL Mariners 7, VSL Rays 6
The Rays could not stop a late game rally by the Mariners as they fell 7-6 on Saturday. The Rays outhit the Mariners and kept them off the scoreboard for the first five frames, but a four run ninth doomed the Rays. Gianfranco Aldazoro was 3 for 3 with a triple and 2 RBI's. Gregory Rosal was charged with the blown save and the loss.
DSL Mariners 4, DSL Rays 0
The Rays offense managed nine hits but could not turn them into runs as they fell 4-0. Julio Herrera and Joel Jumes each had two hits in the game. Jose Alonzo took the loss. Carlos Garcia pitched 3 shut-out innings.
Nice to see HJL finding ways to impact the game even if he's not getting hits.
ReplyDeleteAlso, how about Jake Hager? Good approach at the plate, makes contact, and is beginning to really go on a big time hot streak. He was the one player who stood out when I went to a few Princeton games last season, he just is a very smooth baseball player with a very nice swing.
